How to put on stockings
[ Updated: Mar 21, 2005 ]

I know this seems such an elementary subject, kinda like instructions on how to put on a bra, but hey, every young (physically or mentally or psychologically) girl needs to learn things like that, so here goes...

Sit on the edge of a chair or bed when putting on hose. (Standing leaning your butt against the wall can lead to toppling over. )

Gather up the leg of the pantyhose with your fingers, until you reach the foot. If your hands are rough, consider wearing disposable rubber surgical gloves or hosiery gloves.

From the seated position, slip the hosiery over your foot, positioning the toes in place, and then the heel.

(For pantyhose, now repeat the process with the other leg.)

(For stay-up stockings with grippy elastic at the top, I find it easiest to fold down the top so the elastic is to the outside, so it won't drag against your leg as you're putting it on.)

Still seated, draw the stocking gently but firmly up to the knee, alternating legs and smoothing the fabric to its sheerest as you go. With the pantyhose at the knee, stand up. And using both hands, continue to ease the legs up over your body. Do not try to pull them up all the way yet. Just ease them up as far as they will go without much force.
For stay-up stockings with grippy elastic at the top, now fold the elastic top back up.
To adjust your hose after putting it on, wet your hands and press them against the hose: the dampness of your palms will enable you to move your hose around very easily. Note that you do not slide your hands against the hose, but instead you slide the hose against your skin. The dampness of your palms make it stick to the hose.

Another important factor in being delicate to hosiery is to evenly distribute any stress on the hosiery. That is, is the hose is loose at the ankles, don't try to fix that by pulling the hose up at the waist! Instead, start at the ankle, with the aforementioned damp hands, and work your way up the leg.

Before & after adjustment.
