The value of experimentation!
You probably don't need to be told about the value of experimentation.
Afterall, your innate curiosity was what landed you in this
crossdressing "mess" in the first place
But if you're not that brave or not passable (yet!), in this day and age of on-line auctions and mail box services, it should be a cinch to buy on-line. Check out the sizing info below, and go buy some cheap used stuff in varying sizes and see which fit you the best. With everything, try to get a couple of different styles. With shoes, buy shoes with varying styles (pumps, ankle-straps, slingbacks, boots, etc.), with varying heel heights, and varying toe box style (pointy, rounded, open toe, etc.). Used shoes can be had for just a few bucks. Sometimes, people sell a a whole "lot" of shoes in one size, as well. With skirts, buy one in a fitted style, and one in an "A line" (flared) style. Ditto with dresses. Shoe sizes: First and most important, shoe sizing! Your femme shoe size (U.S. size) is most likely 2 sizes larger than your male shoe size. I wear size U.S. 7 men, and size U.S. 9 women fits me just perfect. Buy a couple of cheap pairs of shoes one size or one half size apart to check your fit. For example, if you're a size 11 men, buy shoes in 12, 13, 14 women size and see which ones fit the best. Here are two charts comparing shoe sizes:
Dress sizes: The rule for dresses is to go by your chest size, and secondarily, your waist size. So if your chest is 44, say, your dress size should be size 18 or 20 or XL. For bottoms, it depends on the kind of fit that you want. The reason is because women, because of their curvy nature, generally have a much bigger difference between their waist and hip measurement than men. If you want a skirt that fits loosely in the hip to help with the illusion of a bigger hip, go by your waist measurement.
If you want the tight, second-skin, streetwalker look
For example, my chest is 37",
my waist is 26" (honest; no cheating!)
and my hip is 34".
A size 6 dress would fit me almost perfectly.
I have a wedding dress that an admirer bought for me in size 6
that fits me like it was custom tailored for me.
Check it out!
However, I'd be swimming around in a pair of shorts or
a skirt in size 6 (or size S).
I really need a size 2 (very rare) or size 1.
A pair of size 1 boy-leg shorts would be va-va-voom tight on me!
And finally, remember to allow for your breast forms, if you
intend to wear them with your clothes.
Add about 1"-2" to your chest measurement, and use that instead.
Hosiery sizes: This is easy: every manufacturer has its own set of sizes, which are segmented by weight and height. Just follow their sizing chart. Swimwear sizes:
Swimwear sizing is quite similar to dress sizing.
For two piece bikinis,
if you can buy the top & bottom separately, then use the corresponding
chest/hip measurement for each piece.
If you have to buy the two pieces as a set, use your chest/bust measurement.
